For as long as I can remember, I've been captivated by radio.
Growing up, talk radio was a common sound. My personal favorite was Paul Harvey and "the rest of the story." Every so often, I still listen to his old stories, though Mr. Harvey has since passed away.
Here's a link to a podcast hosted by Paul Harvey Jr. featuring the late Mr. Harvey's stories
I guess it comes as no surprise my adult years have been marked by many hours spent listening to podcasts and my professional career included some time in radio.
My time in the radio world, both as a listener and a journalist, has taught me that while a picture is worth a thousand words, a thousand spoken words can free the mind to paint ten thousand pictures.
"Audio is one of the most intimate forms of media because you are constantly building your own images of the story in your mind and you’re creating your own production,” Emma Rodero, a communications professor at the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona, told The Atlantic in 2015. “And that of course, is something that you can never get with visual media.”
I often think back to the times before television when families would gather 'round the radio to listen to Little Orphan Annie, the Twilight Zone and The Shadow. It was in these living rooms imaginations were unleashed.
It's this image that occupied my mind when I created one of the newest packages at Root Story Studios: the Blossom series.
In the Blossom series, Root Story Studios still harnesses the power of storytelling, but exclusively in audio. The real life stories of the interview subject come to life as they narrate their experiences to music and sound effects.
Not only are these audio documentaries powerful and beautiful, they are also great for clients who may be nervous about tackling their life story using lots of camera equipment or who lack enough pictures to complement a full video documentary.
The Blossom series is also a perfect way to capture your stories or the legacy of a loved one while still practicing social distancing during these unique times.
Starting today, Root Story Studios is offering 20% off on any Blossom package to the first five people who sign up.
During COVID-19, the whole process will be done over the phone and online to help keep you and your family safe.
Check out the available Blossom packages in the link below.
Note: These prices are pre-discount, mention this post when you request an estimate via email or on our online booking form.

I'm looking forward to helping you bring your stories to life in audio!
